Diaper Rash Powder

Grandmama tip!

For diaper rash brown cornstarch in a dry frying pan on medium heat and constanly stir with a WOODEN spoon. (plastic ones melt. I know this from experience.)  When the cornstarch is a light brown color take the pan off of the burner.  Let cool completely.  Put powder into a shaker and keep by the baby changing station.  When you change the baby's diaper sprinkle on some corn starch.

My daughter had really bad rashes at first and this was the only thing that ever helped her and clear her up.

Make your own baby food

It really is not very hard at all, and there are tons of websites to help or you can check out cookbooks for baby food at the local library. To make baby food you can microwave-steam or steam on the stove veggies or fruit until soft, and then mashed it up (in a food processor when baby first started eating solids). Put the food into ice cube trays.  Once solid, pop out the food and put them into freezer bags.  Simple.

Here is the best website ever!  It has stages and types of foods for your baby.

Baby Rash? Time to boil the diapers!

If your son or daughter's  tush is breaking out, your diapers need a boiling.

Take a large canning pot and half fill with hot water, bring it to a boil, and add about 12 to 18 clean diapers depending on size of pot and 1/2 cup of vinegar. Boil diapers about 1/2 hour stirring regularly. You will see scum come out of the diapers from old detergent and such.

Drain well and wash in washer as usual. Dry cloth diapers outside if possible or on high heat in dryer.

Cheap and Frugal Grocery Bags

I make my own grocery bags and have been doing it for years.  I give them as gifts and usually make mine out of left over material or a sheet.  I took a Target plastic grocery bag and cut it in half to make a pattern because I think Target has the best size available.  But, for the rest of the world who would like to know how to do it right, here is an awesome tutorial. I also make these bags for children and their belongings.  Gabe has one in the car full of things to entertain him. Enjoy!

Ok, this will not shock you but, I would rather make a gift than buy one.  That being said. Here is an awesome tutorial on making a crayon roll for your children, grandchildren, neices, nephews etc.  These are so cute and you can customize them for your kiddos.  Great for car trips, to keep in your purse for resturants.  Let you imagination go wild!

Enjoy!

Diapers

It goes with out saying that babies are expensive.  I would like to suggest that you make an investment and purchase cloth diapers.  It is an upfront expensense but it will save you money in the long run.  You can save them and reuse them for your next baby as well.  One thing you should know is hang drying your cloth diapers in the sun is the best way to kill germs!  The sun is FREE and it does it's job well.  When I was researching this topic a while back the experts suggest you have at least 24 diapers.  Unless you want to wash each day :O)

Christmas

It's begining to look a lot like Christmas.  Which usually means most people are going to go out and buy gifts and in return for their generousity, they are going to go into debt.  I am not one of those people.  Don't get me wrong, I love giving gifts.  I, however will not go into debt to show love.  Here are a few ideas for you to lower your christmas bills.

Entertain Pot Luck Style!

We all like to entertain and have our friends over to our homes from time to time.  However, everyone is really feeling the ramifications of the economy.  I would like to suggest to you throw a Pot Luck dinner and Game Night with your friends.  Not only does it cost little, but it also is fun evening.  Every one like to bring something over anyway.  The last time we did this our stomaches hurt! Not only from all of the great food but from the laughter as well.
